The corrugated packaging industry has not only been riding the trend towards environmentally friendly business practices, it has been redefining the general industrial standards by consistently pushing its associated businesses to hold themselves to higher standards. The very design and required materials for corrugated fiberboard make the process of recycling possible; However, it is the community approach and the innovative thinking of industry leaders, such as the PackPros that has made the astounding conversion rate a reality. New recycling methods, sustainability concerns and an ever-progressive approach to environmentalism have established the corrugated packaging industry as a model for other businesses.

Corrugated ready for recyclingIn 1990, just over half of all corrugated fiberboard was recycled. Thanks to the industry fully embracing the increased environmental awareness and proactive approach, corrugated cardboard is being recycled at an incredible rate of over 75%. That is well over the rate of recycling for glass, aluminum and plastic. PackPros, and the rest of the corrugated industry, has also been looking for alternate fibers to alleviate recycling concerns in other industries. They have developed ways to recycle the fibers from newspapers, other paper products and even some fibers that are a bit unorthodox, such as straw.

Although the media tends to focus on the after-market usage of waste products, it is clear to the PackPros that waste management is only half of the picture. Although much of the new corrugated packaging material is made from recycled products, it is inevitable that there needs to be other sources as well. To this end, the corrugated industry has encouraged sustainability in the forestry industry. Most of the raw materials that are harvested for use in the industry come from tree farms that strive to be as environmentally friendly as possible. It is important to the PackPros team, as leaders of the packaging industry,  to end de-forestation whenever possible.

It is the firm belief of the PackPros team that there is no excuse for environmentally unfriendly practices. Taking a proactive approach to concerns that are not necessarily the current fad of environmentalism, they have strived to work on details before they are addressed by the media and the EPA. In fact, PackPros and others in the industry have been working closely with the EPA to meet and exceed the high expectations handed down by the EPA to industrial businesses. By limiting and purifying waste water, using water-based dyes and strengthening their product in general (The stronger the product, the less of it that other businesses will need), corrugated fiberboard makers have set the bar higher for similar industries.

Thanks to a unified industry with progressive idealism, the corrugated fiberboard packaging industry will continue to set the standard for being environmentally compliant. Between their efforts to recycle and sustaining their source of raw materials, the corrugated packaging industry has established their dominance over other packaging forms with their "our world" approach to environmentalism. The PackPros group is proud to support environmentalism and lead in an industry that is quickly redefining the balance between environmental responsibility and fiscal success. Look to this enduring industry and PackPros to continue to bring new recycling innovations to the industrial world.
